We’ve already seen plenty of games that try and combine education with a sense of fun. It usually involves turning learning into a game of some sort, with more advanced models using video games or apps. But we’ve never come across a console that puts together education, exercise, and gaming all wrapped into one package – to be fair, we were a little sceptical...

Dinosaurs just have something that both kids and adults love. They’re interesting creatures that no longer exist but used to roam the earth, immensely powerful – the kind of stuff that tends to capture the imagination. But because of that many toy manufacturers have taken advantage of the allure and released substandard products that aren’t really up to scratch...

At Dear Santa Toys, we understand just how frustrating it is to find the top toys for Christmas 2014. All our writers have kids of varying ages, meaning we know exactly what to look for, the latest trends, and what the kids at school are talking about on the playground. Whether you’re looking for top toys for toddlers or the top Christmas toys for boys, we’ve got what you’re looking for and anything and everything in between!

We’ve amassed the top ten toys that we think will be selling like hot cakes come the Christmas season. They’re all excellent in terms of value, how much replay you’ll get from them, and whether they’re safe for your little ones to use. If you’re not quite sure whether it’s for them, or if you’re on a budget, we’ll also suggest a couple of legitimate alternatives that won’t cost you the earth (i.e. not cheapo toys they’ll hate anyway!).

As parents, toys are an investment. The last thing you want happening is your child getting bored after playing with a present during Christmas day and then tossing it by the wayside. That’s why our top 10 list isn’t just a collection of hyped toys that won’t outlast the Christmas season.

We’ve amassed a list that’s been carefully put together and considered the best toys out there – we’ve literally taken a look at hundreds of toys to find the best selection for 2014.

Whether your kids love video games, trucks, dolls, or robots, you’ll find something that they won’t be letting go of for quite some time. They have plenty of replayability, will last well beyond 2015, and will save your wallet from further requests for at least a month or two! And considering how quickly kids change their minds, that’s quite an achievement!

Many people have asked us whether it’s best to have more presents to open or a single Let’s face it, kids love opening loads of presents. Even if their ‘main’ present is a new console such as the PS4 (obviously super expensive!) or similar, they’ll still be a little disappointed if they don’t have smaller items to open.

Depending on your budget, we suggest having a single main present that’s supported by smaller additional ones. For the cheaper toys, size really does go a long way. Go for something that will look impressive under that tree – don’t just go for size alone, of course! This tactic works particularly well with younger children!

What you then want to do is get loads of small filler presents. You can usually find these for super cheap during sales throughout the year. The best time to get your hands on these is the post-Christmas sales, as you can get some amazing toys for dirt-cheap. Should your kids not really want them the following Christmas, you can always use them as presents for friends or family. Perfect solution!

Let’s not beat around the bush: we’re huge fans of buying online. And there are several very good reasons for that (we think you’ll be convinced as well!).

First of all, there’s the whole convenience of it all. On Amazon, you can literally order with just a single click. Even if you’re ordering near Christmas, you’re pretty much guaranteed to have the toy arriving on time. Of course, if you leave things till the 23rd, it may be better to order before then.

There’s also the pricing. Buying online is simply the cheapest way to get your hands on your Christmas toys. And it’s not just about the retail price either – going to the mall or your local Toys R Us costs you time (how many hours are you losing when going in person?), gas money, and not to mention the sheer stress of having to fight parents to get your hands on that last action figure or doll your child has put on their list.

We also like the fact that it’s much easier to stick to your budget. Buy your main presents online and you can track exactly how much you’ve spent without randomly picking up items you don’t need. This ensures your kids get what they actually want, not some random sale item you’ve come across. Once you’ve ticked off the top items, then go to the mall and pick up any last-minute add-ons or stocking fillers.

As parents, we’ve used every single top retailer out there. The best one? Hands down, it’s Amazon. There’s a reason (actually, several reasons!) why this company has become the largest and most profitable online toy seller around.

There’s the whole delivery price. Usually, it’s 100% free. All you need to do is hit a minimum purchase price (which is quite low) and it’ll be at your door at no cost. If you’re a member of Prime, it’s always free. At many other retailers, you could be spending upwards of $4 for these chargers. These quickly add up, especially if you’re shopping around.

The second (and most important) is the fact that deliveries are usually quick and reliable. Ordering from second-rate toy sites has led to massive headaches in the past, with us being left wondering whether the toys would ever arrive. We’ve often ended up with duplicate purchases due to packages arriving late. Not exactly what you want during the Christmas season!
